Introduction
to Teleprocessing
3 credits; 4 hours (3 lecture, 1 lab)
This
course examines the field of data transmission and how it is used
to communicate with the computer. Topics covered include the nature
of the communication links and of the hardware attached to them;
common carriers and their services; the configuration of data
communication systems including a description of the codes, modems,
terminals, software and methods of line organization. Both a project
and a case study are integral elements of the course and are carried
out as a part of laboratory assignments.
Prerequisite: CIC100 or CIS100 or CIS101
